    Electronic Tax Clearance System

    A Tax Clearance Certificate was generally valid for 1 year from date of issue and was not rescinded where a taxpayer subsequently developed compliance issues. However, Tax Clearance Certificates issued since 1st April 2015 have an expiry date of 31st December 2015. This is to facilitate the changeover to a new electronic Tax Clearance system.

    From 1st January 2016, all applications for a Tax Clearance Certificate must be made through Revenue's online eTax Clearance system.

    Individuals or businesses using the new system will be issued with a Tax Clearance Access Number. This access number can be provided to Public Service Bodies to allow them to verify the Tax Clearance status of the individual or business on an ongoing basis as required.
